Celebrity Shoes: Parker Posey in Vivienne Westwood toe shoes

Parker Posey in Vivienne Westwood toe shoes

If you’re a regular reader, you’ll probably know by now that I’m a huge Vivienne Westwood fan. Huge. But I just can’t get on board with the designer’s famous “toe shoes”, as seen this weekend on Parker Posey:

Vivienne Westwood red toe shoesIn fact, I would go so far as to say that I actively hate them. I know Dame Viv has been making them for years, so they presumably have a big enough fan base to keep on selling, but seriously, I hate them. So much. They always look to me like shoes which are about five sizes too small, and which the wearer’s feet are just busting out of. I may be a shoe fan, but I’m most definitely not a foot fan (Sorry, all you foot fetishists who keep writing to me thinking that because I love shoes I must also love feet: the two passions most definitely do not go hand in hand for me. Or foot in shoe, rather.), so these are just a huge turn-off for me.

What about you, though? Do you like them?

I have the toe shoes in black and I love them. They’re really smart but quirky enough to stand out too. I feel like a lion in them!

I think it depends on your style as to whether they would be your cup of tea – Amber you are very classic so maybe they would not be so great for you. I could not ever aspire to look at put together as you do, but they work great for me!

  • I’m not a fan of the toe shoes. Dame Viv has a lot of weird looking shoes, like the penis shoe and the platforms made of cans.. I visited her traveling shoe exhibit last year and go to see all her crazy shoes 🙂

  • What disturbs me most is how run-down these look. She seems to have stubbed her toes more than once and never cared to have the shoes repaired. Not pretty regardless of the shoes themselves.

As for the shoes: I’m not a fan, either. Although they look as if they are comfortable on the toes, at first look they just scream “worn-out and too small”.
They might work with the right outfit – which this is definitely not. The different shades of red don’t go together, and the shoes kind of fade in the background instead of getting the spotlight.
