Royal Wedding = Day Off for Shoeperwoman

royal wedding kate middleton prince william Royal Wedding = Day Off for Shoeperwoman
    [PRPhotos.com]

As you may or may not be aware, today is the day of the Royal Wedding, and much of the nation will be sitting down to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton.

“But why do YOU care, Shoeperwoman?” I hear you cry. “It’s not like it has anything to do with shoes, does it?”

Readers, I care because the UK government decided to give us all the day off to loll around doing nothing “celebrate” with the happy couple. (Not literally “with” them, obviously. For some reason my invitation to the blessed event didn’t turn up.) I’m not one to turn down the offer of a day off, so I’m going to go and get on with the celebrating. In a strange twist of fate, Monday is also a public holiday in these here parts, so it’s YET ANOTHER long weekend for us. April has been fantastic, hasn’t it?

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

Schuh ‘Pretty Tie’ pink suede court shoes

If ever there was a well-named shoe, this shoe would be it, for that is, indeed, a “pretty tie” you see on the front of it. It also looks just a little bit like an old school tie to me, too, but perhaps the less said about that, the better.

These are shoes that you really need to see on a foot in order to get the full effect of them. And, as if by magic:

Shoeper Shoe Challenge # 12: Queen of the Castle

D70 0795 Shoeper Shoe Challenge # 12: Queen of the Castle

    What: Gold wedge sandals
When: Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011
Where: Day out to Glamis Castle
With: Green dress (George, via eBay), cardigan (H&M), belt (no idea)

I’ve always wanted to live in a castle. Especially a big old haunted one, with secret rooms and stuff. Glamis Castle definitely fits the bill on that score: as well as being the childhood home of the Queen Mother (and the fictional setting of MacBeth), it’s also crammed full of myths and legends, and has a couple of friendly ghosts, too. Shoeperman and I have visited before, but we liked it so much that on Easter Sunday, we decided to take a trip back, this time with my parents in tow.

Naturally, I wore a green dress:

Theodora & Callum print canvas wedges

theodora and callum wedges Theodora & Callum print canvas wedges

Theodora & Callum is a brand I only became aware of recently, but their printed canvas wedges have been catching my eye every time I’ve looked at the Shopbop website lately, so I figured I may as well show you them.

I’m sure I don’t need to explain my love of canvas wedges, because I’ve talked about that more than enough thankyouverymuch. While I love the shape of these, though, and it’s nice to see some colourful footwear at this time of year, I must admit that the prints used here aren’t particularly to my taste, purely because they wouldn’t really work with the rest of my wardrobe. Of course, the $395 price tag isn’t to my taste either, so it’s lucky for me that I’m not tempted by these, non?

What does everyone else think of them? (Click here to buy them from Shopbop.)

Castaner ‘Manila’ gingham peep toe slingbacks

If I’m not really careful, I could end up going totally overboard on gingham during the warmer months of the year. It’s the quintessential summer print, isn’t it? And sure, you could argue that the reason for that is its resemblance to a picnic basket, but I’d simply remind you of gingham capri pants, little summer dresses, pretty headscarves… I could go on. There’s just something very retro about it, and that, of course, is exactly why it’s such a Shoeperwoman favourite.

These Castaner shoes are a great example of the print in action. They have a 4.7 inch heel offset by a high platform, and the fabric uppers are topped with a pretty little brooch to finish the look off. They’d be perfect with the aforementioned capri pants and sundresses (although maybe not gingham ones – you can have too much of a good thing sometimes!), and will also add a fun touch to jeans or shorts.

These are a little bit on the pricey side at £216, so I guess it’s a good thing that the style never really goes out of fashion!
