    Shoeper Shoe Challenge#4: Winter Warmer

zara over the knee boots Shoeper Shoe Challenge#4: Winter Warmer

What: Zara tan leather over-the-knee boots
    When: Saturday, February 26, 2011
    Where: Dinner with my parents
With: ASOS skirt, Zara sweater, vintage faux fur jacket (belonged to my grandmother), Gucci sunglasses

First up: no, I didn’t cut my hair, it just got caught in the collar of my sweater when I was putting it on, and I quite liked the “faux bob” effect, so I decided just to leave it like that. (Well, for as long as I had my jacket on, anyway. I’d have felt a bit stupid sitting at dinner with my hair stuffed into my sweater…) I call it my “Fob”. Faux bob = Fob? No?

Anyway! The weather has been ridiculously cold lately, so this outfit was my attempt at cold-weather glam. I seem to be stuck in a bit of a pencil skirt rut at the moment – I think there was only one day last week when I didn’t wear either a pencil skirt or pencil dress – mostly because they’re so easy to wear, and I love the fact that you can just throw them on with a plain sweater and pair of boots, as I did here, and still look like you made a bit of an effort.

kitten heel shoes Colourful kitten heels from Next

I’ve said before that kitten heels aren’t my favourite style of shoe, and I don’t think they ever will be: I’m one of those people who likes her shoes to be either very high, or totally flat, with nothing in between. The style has been going through a resurgence in popularity recently, however, and if you’re a fan of the kitten heel, Next has one of he best selections on the high street right now, with all of the shoes shown above retailing for £25.  I do love the uppers they’ve used on these, particularly the striped ones, and, of course, the red and blue bow-front styles. There are a few other colours available too, so if you want to take a longer look, click here.

Casadei 150MM cross over calfskin sandals

casadei chunky wooden sandals Casadei 150MM cross over calfskin sandalsThe 70s look is very much back in fashion this summer, and I think these Casadei sandals are a particularly good example of a 70s style brought up to date. I think the wooden heel and sole on these is absolutely stunning: in fact, the bottom part of the shoe looks almost like the kind of carved wooden ornament you’d put out on display (or hell, why not the whole shoe?). As far as actually wearing them, goes, however: well, there’s a 5.9″ heel to contend with first of all, but once you’ve mastered the art of walking on them, these are sure to turn heads. And possibly ankles, but let’s not think about that…

Shoeper Shoe Challenge Week 2 Roundup

shoeper shoe challenge week 2 roundup Shoeper Shoe Challenge Week 2 Roundup

It’s week 2 of the Shoeper Shoe Challenge already (doesn’t time fly when you’re, er, saving shoes?) and I’m pleased to see that lots more shoes have been saved from a fate worse than going into the recycling bin and being turned into Crocs. Wait, what am I talking about? If you were a pair of shoes, nothing would be worse than being turned into Crocs, would it?

Just a couple of points of business before we get onto the fun bit:

    1. If you have a blog, your blog URL now appears both above and below your photo in the gallery. I know the URLs were a bit unclear last week, but Terry has done a bit of tweaking (within the limits of WordPress) and hopefully they’ll be a bit more obvious now.

    2. I’ve also made a couple of changes to the site navigation, and each week’s Challenge Roundup will be filed under the “Your Shoes” tab in the top menu bar, so should you ever find yourself filled with the desire to look back at previous roundups (hey, it could happen. I’ve already looked at last week’s several times…) that’s where you’ll find them.

    Now, on with the show!

Giuseppe Zanotti 150mm red patent cage sandals

How I wish Giuseppe Zanotti had resisted the impulse to add the metal heel to these sandals: they were perfectly striking enough without it and, as always, the metal seems to cheapen the shoe for me, which is NOT something you want to say about your new pair of £378 shoes, is it?

On the plus side, however, I absolutely love the shape of these and, of course, the colour: red shoes are almost always the way to Shoeperwoman’s heart. Or feet, rather.

These are available at Luisa Via Roma. Click here to buy them.

    Oh my.

    Oh my.

Sorry, you’ll have to excuse me: these shoes seem to have rendered me momentarily speechless. That’s what Shoe Kryptonite does, unfortunately. Here’s another image while you’re waiting for me to regain my senses:

See the way the red part of the platform slopes up? So simple, but so stunning. And the grey inserts add an interesting touch, too. Want one more?

If I wanted to be super-picky, I’d have maybe suggested having just one colour on the heel, because the flash of grey looks a little bit like someone just forgot to paint it red. I don’t want to be picky about shoes like these, though, so I’ll just tell you to click here if you want to buy them. Then I’ll sit on my hands so I can’t buy them. It’s a tough life for a shoe superhero, you know…
