Shoeper Shoe Challenge # 63: Happy New Year!

happy new year Shoeper Shoe Challenge # 63: Happy New Year!

What: Vintage Roland Cartier sandals, “borrowed” from my mum years ago
    When: December 31st, 2010
    Where: New Year’s Eve celebration
With: Ethel Dress by Vintage Allure

I know I said I wouldn’t be posting for a few days, but I managed to fit in a sneaky Shoe Challenge tonight, and I figured it would be a good way to round off the year.

This is actually more of a Cheaty Challenge than a sneaky one: it’s much too cold here right now for bare legs, so I’m only wearing these shoes for a couple of hours until it’s time for us to leave for the party we’re going to tonight, at which point I’ll have to change into something a little warmer. My mum bought these shoes in the 80s, though, and they’ve been in the family ever since, so although they’re looking the worse for wear these days, they do have a bit of sentimental value which made me want to save them.

I managed to fit in a few Shoe Challenges during my holiday, too, so I’m actually doing a little better than the “63″ in the title of this post suggests – I’ll post some of the photos in January, and also try my best to get through the remaining pairs of shoes until my deadline on January 26th. For now, though, I’m off to celebrate New Year – hope everyone has a great time, whether you’re going out or staying in. See you next year!

    Two things:

    1. Sorry about the bad pun in the headline

    2. 2010 has been a fantastic year for Shoeperwoman.com, and before it ends, I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank all of my readers for helping make it possible for me to continue to run this site. Your comments and support really do mean the world to me, and I can’t thank you all enough for checking in every day (or every week, or every month) and sharing my love of all things shoe-related. Thank you.

The site will be on hiatus now until next year, so all that remains is for me to wish you all a wonderful New Year when it comes: here’s to 2011, and all the shoes it has in store for us!

    Shoeperwoman’s Favourite Shoes of 2010

    by

As 2010 draws to a close, I thought I’d see it off by taking a quick look back at some of the fabulous pairs of shoes that have made this year a little prettier. I should stress before I start that this is a totally subjective list, and these are simply the shoes that I’ve loved the most this year: your list may well be totally different, so feel free to tell me which pairs you’d have chosen in the comments! I should probably also stress that this is by no means a comprehensive list either – if I’d tried to show you every single shoe that’s won my heart this year we’d have been here until 2012!

Should you want to buy any of the shoes featured in the gallery below, you’ll find a link at the bottom of each image which will take you to the original post, containing the product details and information on where to buy them. Please be aware, though, that these are my favourite shoes for the whole year, so many of them will no longer be in stock, unfortunately.

    Enjoy!

    Prada turquoise suede platform sandals

I just can’t resist the colour turquoise, and Prada have made it even more delectable than usual by using it on the uppers of these chunky platform sandals. This shape is certainly very “of the moment” right now: it’s a whole lot clunkier than the kind of shoes I normally go for, but that whole “adjustment of the eye” process has been going on here, and having spent a summer gazing at big shoes from the likes of Miu Miu, Jeffrey Campbell and Jessica Simpson, I think I’m ready to accept that it’s here to stay – for a little while at least.

These have the same shape of heel as the tan Pradas I showed you last month, are also available in black, and are $795 at Neiman Marcus. Click here to buy them.

Irregular Choice Low Level Danger wedges with light up heels

irregular choice light up shoes Irregular Choice Low Level Danger wedges with light up heels

Shoes with heels that light up when you walk: I didn’t like it when Jimmy Choo did it (or when the makers of kids’ sneakers did it, come to think of it), and I’m afraid I don’t like it any better now that Irregular Choice has decided to give it a go, either. In fact, I’ll be honest: I probably wouldn’t have liked these shoes even if the heels didn’t light up, because the combination of clumpy, slightly “sensible” looking Mary Jane and kerraaazy plastic heel just doesn’t work for me. (And no, I’ve no idea what would make a light-up heel acceptable to me, I just know that this isn’t it.)

In the interests of fairness, however, let’s take a closer look at that heel:

Penny Loves Kenny suede two-tone ‘Tetra’ pumps with studs

Aaaaaand we’re back! Did everyone have a good Christmas (assuming, of course, that you celebrate it)? Did you find any new pairs of shoes under the tree?

I figured most of you are probably all Christmas-ed out after the last few days (I know I am), so today I bring you a shoe that’s neither red nor green nor glitter-covered, or, indeed, in any way “festive”. Think if it as the calm in the middle of the Christmas-New Year storm.

That’s not, of course, to say that this shoe doesn’t have charms of its own. Penny Loves Kenny isn’t a brand I’ve featured here before, but it’s one I’ll definitely be keeping a closer eye on, now that I’ve seen this vision of blue and grey loveliness. The cool blue and grey upper is very welcome after the sequin-storm we’ve been living through this month, and the studs on the toe amp it up a little (and also remind me of another shoe, which I just can’t quite place at the moment. Any ideas?).

So, I have to ask: we know Penny Loves Kenny, but do YOU love Penny Loves Kenny?

These are also available in black and brown, and are $89.99 at Heels.com. Click here to buy them.

happy christmas from shoeper woman Have a Shoeper Christmas!

Well, folks, I know it’s still only the 23rd of December, but there are gifts to wrap, stockings to fill and all kinds of other fun things lying in wait, so I’m shutting up shop for the week and heading home to spend the holiday with my family.  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday if you have some time off, and that there are at least one or two shoe boxes under your trees!

    Happy Christmas!
    Love,
