New Shoes! Miss Selfridge grey spotty ‘Polly’ platforms

I know, I know… But seriously: it was pretty obvious I was going to be getting more of these, wasn’t it?

I’d actually gone into the store with my heart set on finding a red pair, but they didn’t have any: not even a pair of size 9s that I could’ve wept over, thinking, “so near, but so far!” I was almost able to say exactly the same thing about these ones, too, though: they were the only pair of size 4s in the store, and naturally I found them only after picking up and examining every single other pair they had. When I finally unearthed these ones, I rushed them to the till… only for the sales girl to notice that I had one size four and one size 5. It’s a good job she did notice too, because, well, let’s just say it wouldn’t have been the first time I’d walked out of a store with two differently sized shoes.

Anyway, I’d love to be able to say I’ve had my fill of Miss Selfridge’s platform bow shoes now, but I think you all know me well enough by now to know I’ll probably continue to stalk the red ones indefinitely. Click here if you want to join me, or here if you fancy a pair of the grey ones.

Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: The Ones That Got Away

dorothy perkins balmain knockoffs1 Shoe Shopping With Shoeperwoman: The Ones That Got Away

During Saturday’s shopping trip, I actually found lots of pairs of shoes I’d gave loved to buy, making it a hard task to narrow it down to just one pair. Here are a few of the ones I managed to get photos off, starting off with those Dorothy Perkins Balmain copies I showed you a few weeks ago.

Now, I’m not a big fan of designer copycat stuff, and these are virtually identical to the Balmain shoes in appearance, although I’m going to be generous and assume there’s a noticeable difference in quality that justifies the price difference. They were much nicer in person than they look on the Dorthy Perkins website, however: so much so that I was really tempted by them. And also by the grey version, which is also available. Oh, STOP IT, Dorothy Perkins, with your pretty shoes!

Valentino peep toe rosette shoes

valentino peep toe rosette pumps Valentino peep toe rosette shoes

I know Valentino like to stick to the same kind of style with some of their shoes, but I can’t help but love them for it, because it happens to be a style I wholeheartedly approve of!

These peep-toe rosette pumps are just stunning: the pale pink colour is delicate and lovely, while the over-sized rose on the toe adds just the right amount of extravagance. Perfect for a special occasion, or even for a bride (look, I’m doing best to justify the $795 price, OK?), you can click here to buy them from Neiman Marcus: or even just to admire them from afar. I know I will.

Red ‘Apex’ high heels with purple platform by Carvela

My search for red shoes I can wear for my wintertime Ruby Shoesdays continues, and today it turned up these red patent ‘Apex’ pumps by Carvela. They certainly fit the bill in terms of colour, with those bright red patent uppers, but of course, it’s not the uppers that are the real talking point here: it’s those huge purple platforms!

I love combinations of red and purple, and think this works really well, although I’m a little less convinced by the very long, pointed toes on these. What do you think of them? If you love them, you can click here to buy them from Debenhams.

Shoeper Shoe Challenge # 46: Non-Casual Sunday

shoeperwoman shoe storage Shoeper Shoe Challenge # 46: Non Casual Sunday

What: Charlotte Russe herringbone peep toes
When: Sunday, August 29th, 2010
Where: Date night
With: green dress worn as top (eBay); black River Island pencil skirt; Matalan bracelet; pearls (my mum’s); obi belt (gifted)

I had to take a rain-check on Non-Casual Friday this week: I was struck down with a migraine on Friday afternoon, which meant that getting dressed up (or, indeed, doing anything other than lying on the bed feeling sorry for myself) was the last thing on my mind.

I managed to make up for it on Sunday, though. This outfit is another DIY, and, like my dress-to-skirt outfit from last week, is the result of an eBay purchase that didn’t quite work out. Actually, this outfit is pretty much the exact opposite of that one, because whereas last week I took a dress and wore it as a skirt, this time the green top you can see is actually a dress, too. This one arrived from eBay last week (can you tell I’ve been spending a lot of time on eBay lately? This is what happens when I try to save money…), and while I loved the top half, the skirt was both too big in the waist, and a little too frilly for my tastes.

Because I loved the colour and fabric so much, I was going to just wear it anyway, but as I stood looking at it and thinking how much better it would be as a top, it suddenly occurred to me that there was nothing stopping me just wearing it as a top. So I pulled this black pencil skirt on over it, and ended up with a much more wearable outfit, although I may well wear the dress the way it’s supposed to be worn one of these days, if it’s ever warm enough!

New Shoes! Miss Selfridge black bow platforms

It was payday this week in the Shoeper household, so naturally I rushed straight out and bought a new pair of shoes.

I actually hadn’t intended to buy shoes at all. Well, not that day, anyway. Nope, I’d really just gone out to buy a new bottle of shampoo. But there’s a Debenhams right around the corner from the Boots I was buying my shampoo in, and there’s a Miss Selfridge concession right at the front door of that Debenhams. And as soon as I laid eyes on these shoes, well, I knew they’d be coming home with me.

River Island purple pom-pom high heel courtshoes

river island purple pom pom shoes River Island purple pom pom high heel courtshoes

Well, it looks like this is destined to be the Year of the Pom Pom. I’m not quite sure how I feel about that, are you?

I DO know how I feel about these purple court shoes from River Island, however. As you all know by now, I’m a huge fan of River Island footwear, and spend too much money on their creations for my own good, but pom-poms aren’t an embellishment I’m overly fond off, and although this one is detachable, given that the rest of the shoe looks like it’s been knitted, well, I think this is one style I probably won’t be spending £49.99 on.

If you love them, however, just click here: your knitted shoes await!

Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle boots

alexander mcqueen winged leather ankle boots Alexander McQueen winged leather ankle bootsThe shape of this boot isn’t new: I wrote about Alexander McQueen’s Pelle’ ankle boots back in May 2009, and the basic shape hasn’t changed since then. What is different, however, is the bronze stitching and hardware, and, of course, those embroidered wings on the side. I’m a bit of a sucker for wings on shoes, and I love these: I also have to admit that I’m slowly coming around to the idea of the peep-toe boot, perhaps because there are just so many of them around now that I’m tempted to think that sooner or later I’ll have to just give in and accept their existence. I still think that almost every peep toe boot I’ve ever seen would look better without the peep toe, although on these ones it does seem to work.

What do you think of them? They’re £705 at Net-a-Porter – click here to buy them.
