After a disappointing start to the year, Topshop is definitely starting to pick up its game in the shoe department. The orange suede versions of these ‘Sylvia’ platforms have already sold out online, despite only becoming available last week, but you should still be able to find them in some stores, at least. The taupe and black versions (seen here from the back, with a gorgeous gold stiletto heel) were still available at the time of writing, but may not be for too much longer: this is a deceptively simple shape which has a lot of impact, and as orange has been so very hot (no pun intended) this summer, I’m not surprised that these appear to be popular.
These are £65 at Topshop.com.

Maybe it’ll look better from a different angle?
Oh. Maybe not.
Now, I’ve said it before: I’m normally a huge fan of Maison Martin Margiela footwear, which is often weird in a good way. This, however, is just … weird.
What do you think? Do you love it? If you do, head over to Luisa Via Roma, where these retail for £425.70.

My apologies for bringing yet another “oh, look, it’s a pair of wedges from River Island!” post, but I finally found the perfect replacement for my red canvas wedges (which, by the way, I wore on almost every day of my vacation, giving up on them only when even my dad started to point out that they were looking a little worse for wear. They remain my most-commented-on shoes, though, so I’m still going to see if they can be repaired. I will not give up!) so I guess it was a good job Monday was pay day, hmm?
(Yes, I know I said the Louboutins were the replacement wedges, but as versatile as they are, they’re not exactly the kind of shoes you’d walk for miles in and take to the beach…)
As far as I’m concerned, these shoes are perfect for summer in every single way, and although the platform is significantly higher than the ones they’ll be replacing, they’re still super-comfortable - much more so than flats, in fact . And thus ends my ”red canvas wedge” search – at least until these ones wear out, too!
If you want to join me, they’re £39.99, and you can grab a pair here.

The Piano – Florida 2010 from Terry Miaoulis on Vimeo.
So, I totally fail at Ruby Shoesday. Oh, I can wear the shoes, no problem at all. But I can never find the time to set up the camera and take photos, and download them, etc, and I guess that’s one more reason why I’m a shoe blogger rather than a personal style blogger.
Anyway! I promise to do better next week, and, as a tenuous link to Ruby Shoesday, there’s a a brief glimpse of a pair of Ruby Shoes (by Christian Louboutin*, no less) in this video Shoeperman made to sum up how much we’re missing Florida. If you look really closely, you may catch a glimpse of the ones I bought in the background…
* They were $3,500, reduced to to $2,500, so obviously I had to try them on, just to see what it feels like to walk in $3000 shoes. It felt… well, actually it felt vaguely uncomfortable, because they were a size too big, but it ALSO felt like I could’ve clicked my heels together and not been in Kansas Florida any more, Toto.

Ever since I bought my Lady Dragon shoes (so for about a week, then) I’ve been a complete convert to the Melissa line – or at least to that part of it designed by Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania label. Trust me, this is as much of a surprise to me as it probably is to you. I mean, plastic shoes! That smell like bubblegum! The HELL?
Even so, I love them. Enough to have found myself, late last week, trawling the Internet looking for a pale blue pair, even although I totally can’t afford them. The blue version with the red hearts is sold out everywhere. I did however, find these ‘Cherries’ shoes, and while this design is not new, looking at them through the eyes of a new rubber-shoe convert, I was smitten. A shoe with a cherry on top: so cute!
If you agree, you’ll find these at Shudoo, where they’re £110.

Mr Cox, sir? Dorothy called. She wanted to know if she could have her shoes back, yet…
Seriously, though, I love these. Sure, they’re whimsical, and OTT, and look more like a doll’s shoe than one designed for a real, live woman, but what the hell: it’s escapism you can wear, and I’m all for that.
I found these at the Patrick Cox website, where you’ll find details of stockists.

I’ve been getting quite a few requests for shoe-related help recently, so I’ve decided to open up my Formspring account again, to give people an easier way to ask their questions.
If you have a shoe-related query, feel free to type it into the box below (or the one that’s taken up residence in the sidebar). Remember, in order for me to be able to help you, the more specific your question is, the better: for instance, I’ll need to know which country you live in (so I don’t suggest shoes that can’t be shipped to you), what kind of budget you have (so I don’t just go directly to ChristianLouboutin.com and work from there), and what kind of heel-height you’re looking for (I love heels, but if you can’t walk in them, I need to know so I’m not searching for 5″ stilettos!).
Fire away – I will do my best to answer if I possibly can!
