Ravel satin court shoes in red and blue

ravel satin court shoes Ravel satin court shoes in red and blue

Blue and red definitely seem to be the shoe colours of the moment. Almost every pair of shoes I find (Well, OK, maybe not every pair) seems to be available in… blue and red. Oh, and black, but black’s just not nearly as interesting, is it?

These blue and red (and black) beauties are by Ravel, and have a cute little “curl” detail (I’ve no idea if that’s the correct term for whatever that is, but it’s the one I’m going to use) on the front. As you can probably tell from the image, these aren’t shoes for anyone who has difficulty walking in heels, because that’s a 5.3″ stiletto, with just a 1″ platform, so they’ll still feel pretty high.

Like them? They’re £65 and are available at Barratts.

Celebrity Shoes: Sarah Jessica Parker in Nicholas Kirkwood at Letterman

LFI LETTERMAN009 31 Celebrity Shoes: Sarah Jessica Parker in Nicholas Kirkwood at Letterman

Carrie Bradshaw may be famous for her Manolos (although she later defected to Louboutin), but Sarah Jessica Parker wore neither for her appearance on Letterman last night, choosing these blue Nicholas Kirkwood platforms instead.

Just in case the shoes weren’t “statement” enough, SJP paired them with a short sequined animal print dress, toning it all down with a white blazer over the top. Take a look under the jump to see the full outfit, and don’t forget to tell me what you think!

Shoe Kryptonite: Jimmy Choo red patent ‘Quiet’ peep toes

There’s absolutely nothing “quiet” about these shoes, is there?

In fact, they’re practically screaming, “Look at me! Love me! Buuuuuyyyy meeeeeee!”

Shoes: I’m listening. Sadly, though, my bank manager isn’t, so I’m going to have to ignore your clarion call, for now at least. Perhaps one of my readers will decide you’re beautiful enough to splash out $665 on, though? If so, they can buy you at Net-a-Porter.

OK, I’m stopping talking directly to the shoes now…

Lace peep-toe shoes from Dorothy Perkins

lace peep toe shoes Lace peep toe shoes from Dorothy Perkins

The lace look has been around for a couple of seasons now, but it doesn’t look like it’s going out of fashion anytime soon. These shoes are one of two different lace styles carried by Dorothy Perkins at the moment – the others have platform soles, but as we see a lot of platforms at the moment, I thought I’d break with tradition and show you the “normal” soled versions instead. Hey, remember when ALL shoes used to have soles like this? I’m so used to always wearing some kind of platform now that when I put on shoes that don’t have one, the heels feel really low, and a bit strange, although it has to be said that they certainly don’t look that way.

I think these shoes are a really nice way to work the lace trend. They’re not too over the top, they’re very pretty and feminine, and they’re simple enough that they won’t go out of fashion, even when lace has had its moment in the spotlight. They’re £35 and they’re available here.

Poetic Licence demi-wedge Dolly sandals in green and gold

These shoes are slightly odd ones at first glance: the heel isn’t really high enough to justify the wedge, and there’s a part of me that wishes they’d just make up their mind what they want to be – wedge or non-wedge. I think I’m willing to let them off with it, however, because the rest of the shoe is just divine: the green and gold uppers make for a glorious combination, and I love the way the two have been combined on both the heel and the upper, alternating between the gold leather and the green suede. Add a little green flower on the toe, and you have a beautiful and unusual shoe that would be perfect for parties. So yes, I think I can just about forgive the odd little heel!

    These are £84 at Oli.

Marks & Spencer Limited Collection Cork Platform Shoes

cork soled striped shoes Marks & Spencer Limited Collection Cork Platform ShoesIf I’d spotted these shoes just a little bit sooner, there’s a very good chance they’d have been coming to Florida with me next week, because they’re basically the perfect summer holiday shoe, as far as I can see. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t spot them, mind you: I’d have had a hard time choosing between the red and blue, you see, and although they’re affordably priced at £29.50, I think two new pairs of shoes would’ve been a bit much, even for me.

I can’t have them, then, but you still can, and if you’re looking for the footwear equivalent of a day at the seaside, complete with ice cream, boat trips and maybe even a bit of sunshine if you’re lucky, head over to Marks & Spencer and snap these up.

Poll: How many pairs of shoes do you take on vacation?

packing for vacation Poll: How many pairs of shoes do you take on vacation?

Now, obviously it’ll depend very much on the vacation itself, where you’re going and how long you’re staying,  but roughly how many pairs of shoes do you pack when you’re going away?

I’m in the process of packing for my upcoming trip, and me being me, I always want to take ALL of my shoes with me. And all of my dresses. And shorts. And… just everything. Nope, travelling light is not something that comes naturally to me, although over the last few years, luggage restrictions, plus the fact that I like to shop, and need to leave some room in my suitcase for the shoe-shaped souvenirs I will inevitably want to bring back with me, I’ve been trying to perfect the art of the capsule shoe wardrobe for trips such as this.

Tell me, then: what’s your magic number? Do you like to travel light, or do you adopt the boy scout’s motto: be prepared?

Patent bow wedge platforms from New Look

patent bow wedge shoes Patent bow wedge platforms from New LookLast Autumn, I spent a good couple of weeks desperately searching for a pair of wedge shoes with super-high heels, which I needed for a party I was going to. Naturally, because I really, really needed them, such shoes were nowhere to be found, and it’s only now, over six months later, that they finally turn up – and at a price I can afford, too!

These shoes are from New Look, and they’re also available in black, although the black version doesn’t seem to be available on the website at the moment. They’re basically a wedge heeled version of the platforms I bought in two different colours earlier this year, although as they have a wedge rather than a stiletto, they’ll probably be a little easier to walk in.

A good option for those of you who want to wear very high heels, but aren’t too good at balancing in them, these are £25, and you can buy them here.
