Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte cut-out platform sandals

nicholas kirkwood for rodarte Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte cut out platform sandals

These shoes are apparently so rare that Colette have only two pairs to sell. Both of those pairs were still in stock at the time of writing, however, which suggests that either no one’s been willing to cough up the £1,005 you’ll need to buy them, or… no one’s actually WANTED to buy them. I suspect it may be a bit of both: as much as I love Nicholas Kirkwood’s work, I can’t help feeling  that the platform on these looks a lot like something nasty that the wearer of the shoe happened to step in. Hmmm.

The heel, of course, is the other stand-out detail here, and is made out of oxidized metal blocks, stacked precariously on top of each other (or rather it LOOKS precarious). It’s unusual, sure, and a whole lot of work has obviously gone into creating these, but even so, I’m going to take a wild guess that these WON’T be the most popular shoes I’ll write about this week. Am I right?

They’re now showing as sold out on both sizes.

I would say the heel is actually rusted nuts (as in nuts and bolts) the shoes have a very futuristic industrial theme to them. Something Tina Turner would have worn in Mad Max! I have to say, I love them.

The shoe itself is beautiful (I love the fact that this is a real shoe with closed toes, not a peep toe or a sandal.), the heel is … interesting, but okay, while the platform is just plain ugly.

So if somebody designs a similar shoe without that heinous platform, call me, I’ll buy it at once.

I LOVE these shoes! I think the platform looks like worn metal more than anything else. It’s very steampunk.

I love the heel, but it would need to be on another shoe.

  7. Rebecca says:

Jesus, steampunk is so hip now. Unfortunately I rarely feel that it leads to useful high fashion pieces.

Poor shoes, they look as if they’re dying a very slow, painful death… :(

  9. Anna says:

I actually came across a picture of Kim Kardashian wearing these. They don’t look as crazy on.

I’m not sure If I would wear them but they are very very interesting.
