Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte cut-out platform sandals

These shoes are apparently so rare that Colette have only two pairs to sell. Both of those pairs were still in stock at the time of writing, however, which suggests that either no one’s been willing to cough up the £1,005 you’ll need to buy them, or… no one’s actually WANTED to buy them. I suspect it may be a bit of both: as much as I love Nicholas Kirkwood’s work, I can’t help feeling  that the platform on these looks a lot like something nasty that the wearer of the shoe happened to step in. Hmmm.

The heel, of course, is the other stand-out detail here, and is made out of oxidized metal blocks, stacked precariously on top of each other (or rather it LOOKS precarious). It’s unusual, sure, and a whole lot of work has obviously gone into creating these, but even so, I’m going to take a wild guess that these WON’T be the most popular shoes I’ll write about this week. Am I right?
