WHAT: New Look over-the-knee tassel boots WHEN: Saturday, February 27, 2010 WHERE: Visiting my parents WITH: Black skinny jeans (River Island); green polo-neck sweater (gifted); black faux-fur jacket (Oasis, years ago); brooch (vintage, belonged to my grandmother.); black leather gloves (gifted)
This is the reason for the lack of Shoe Challenge posts this week. Yup, it snowed. AGAIN. It’s now officially the worst winter since records began, and as well as being utterly depressing, and forcing me to cancel lots of the plans I’d had for this week (We’re not snowed in, but I don’t like driving in the snow), it’s also making the Shoe Challenge a little more, er, challenging than usual, because these boots are the closest thing I have to “sensible” snow wear, so they’re basically never off my feet at the moment. They’ve definitely been the best value-for-money shoes I’ve bought in the past year! (There are some better photos of them here, if you particularly want to see them.)
Actually, even without the snow, the challenge is getting much harder. I think the most important thing I’ve learned from it so far is that while I have a LOT of summer and evening shoes, I don’t have a whole lot of winter ones, and tend to stick to my faithful black boot collection when the weather is cold, wet and miserable. Which is basically all the time. Something to bear in mind the next time I decide to go shoe-shopping, I guess!
The Pin-Up Girl Clothing website is a very dangerous place for me to be, and for that reason I try to limit my visits there to once a month a most, otherwise I’d end up bankrupt. I don’t think I’ve ever visited the site without finding something new and wonderful to lust after, and today it was these faux-suede purple peep toes, which are a total bargain at $42 (although I know to my cost that if you’re outside the US, you’ll have to pay a customs charge on top of that). These are also available in an equally gorgeous grey, but they have very limited quantities available, so if you want a pair, you know what to do…
Oh, come on, you didn’t think I’d let a whole week go by without showing you at least one pair of heart-embellished shoes, did you?
Actually, that’s what I was planning to do, but then these little patent flats popped up at Accessorize, and I just couldn’t resit showing you them. They’re only £22, and just the thing for summer days, when you can slip them on with shorts, dresses, jeans: you name it. Super-cute, and super-affordable, you can grab yourself a pair here here.
Oh, great: I’m going to have Elvis in my head ALL afternoon now! And granted, these aren’t quite the kind of “blue suede shoes” he was talking about, but if they were mine, I wouldn’t want anyone to step on them either. I love everything about these shoes: the colour is the obvious attraction (and hey, I don’t believe I currently own a pair of shoes in this particular shade of blue!), but the shape is also a draw for me, because although the platform is large, the heel has a slight curve to it, and the toe is fairly pointed, making these look a little less clumpy than many other platform designs.
These are also available in black, and if I didn’t already own more than enough pairs of black shoes already, I’d be coveting those, too. As it is, I’ll stick to the blue pair, which are £65 at ASOS.
P.S. I added a Google Friend Connect widget to the sidebar (over on the right). It’s the same thing as Blogger’s followers widget, so feel free to follow me, and make me feel a little less alone!
When it comes to fighting off the Bad Guys (Crocs, socks-with-sandals, people who think shoes are a waste of money…), sometimes superpowers just aren’t enough. Sometimes you need to resort to good, old-fashioned weaponry, and when you do, where are you going to store your bullets? Why, in a special holster attached to your shoes, obviously!
And look, the bullets even come covered in Swarovski crystals!
These are $603 at Colette. What do you think of them?
Mesh uppers, clear heel: looks like Prada is going for a “barely there” feel this season, hmm?
On the plus-side, I’d imagine these mesh Mary Janes will keep your feel wonderfully cool, even in the warmest of weather.
On the minus side? Well, as much as I love peep toes, and sandals, and all kinds of other shoes that are designed to show off the foot inside them, somehow the idea of my WHOLE foot being visible through the mesh fabric of my court shoes just doesn’t appeal to me. At all. Does it appeal to you? If it does, these are available at Saks, where they’re £463.17.
These shoes are also available in both silver and gold, but it’s this black and white version that appeals to me most: partly because I’m a sucker for this particular combination, but also because I can imagine wearing these in the daytime, while the other two colours are just a little bit too disco-tastic to get away with in my daily life!
I think these would look fantastic with a pencil skirt and tailored top, but they’d be equally fabulous dressed down with a pair of black skinny jeans. It just so happens that I have all of those items currently residing in my closet, so onto the Shoeper Wish List these go! If you want to add them to yours too (or just buy them and to hell with the “wishing”!), they’re £70, and you can get them here.
