Elizabeth and James suede ‘Mason’ pumps

I’ve seen these shoes on so many different retail websites now I figured it was probably a sign that I should write about them. Now that I have, I’m not quite sure what took me so long: the colours alone are enough to draw me to these! I particularly like the turquoise, but the pink and yellow shades also provide a nice antidote to the gloomy weather, and make me think of all of the pretty summer dresses they could be worn with.

If you can’t wait until the warmer weather comes along, though, these will also work with jeans, trousers or bring a splash of colour to winter pieces, too. They’re £354 at Zappos.

Marc by Marc Jacobs black and white pumps

marc jacobs black court sho Marc by Marc Jacobs black and white pumpsA slightly different take on the bow-fronted court shoe trend, these Marc by Marc Jacobs court shoes look like they’re all dressed up in a dinner jacket and bow tie (albeit a two-toned one), ready for an evening out. They’re a little more grown-up than some of the styles we’ve come to expect from the Marc by Marc line, but that may not be such a bad thing, depending on your point of view. I think these are cute, and just a little bit quirky: they’re $370 at Zappos.

Mechante rose gold python ankle boot

gold shoe boots Mechante rose gold python ankle bootAlthough these are described as “boots” on the Matches website, they actually occupy that strange territory halfway between boots and shoes that’s been so popular of late. With a shiny gold python print upper and peep toe, these are presumably intended as evening wear, and they’ll certainly make a change from the usual strappy or platform sandals. I have absolutely no idea what I’d wear with something like these (Matches suggest a Preen mini-dress, but the Shoeper budget doesn’t stretch quite that far, unfortunately), but I think I’d have a whole lot of fun finding out. If you do too, they’re down to £390 in the Matches sale.

    Shoeperwoman’s Shoe Challenge 2010!

When you write about shoes for a living, one question tends to crop up more than any other. (Well, OK, maybe slightly less than “And you actually make money from that?”, but still fairly often.) “So,” people will ask, preparing to be shocked, “How many pairs of shoes do you actually have?”

Until yesterday, I didn’t actually know the answer to that question. My house is small, you see, and my shoe collection lives in various different corners of it, so counting shoes had never been a huge priority. Last night, though, I decided it was time I was able to answer the sixty-four-thousand dollar question, so I got out my shoe collection, and…

Jade satin ‘Alana’ shoes from Monsoon

Monsoon say these ‘Alana’ peep toes of theirs would be “perfect with a party dress”. Well, they won’t get any argument from me there: and hey, any excuse to buy a new dress is a good excuse as far as I’m concerned! As “party” shoes go, though, these ones are particularly delicious, and the rosette detail on the toe makes them look a little bit like they’ve been gift wrapped. I can’t think of many better gifts than a pair of shoes: if you’d like to treat yourself to these ones, they’re £55 and you can buy them here.

Chloe Capretto white leather ballerina flats

chloe ballet flats Chloe Capretto white leather ballerina flatsI can’t say ballet flats are something I tend to be willing to spend a lot of money on. As pretty as they can be, the fact that the entire sole is in constant contact with the ground means I’m much harder on them than I am on shoes with heels, so they wear out much faster in my hands (or on my feet, rather) than other styles do. And I can’t say white ballet flats are normally high on my wish list, either: I almost always go for silver, gold or, er, leopard print when I’m buying this style of shoe, purely because they’re so versatile. (OK, maybe not the leopard print…)

With all of that said, though, these Chloe flats are really pretty, with their little chain-edged flower embellishments. Are they $495 worth of pretty? Not to me, I don’t think, but if they’re worth that much to you, you can buy them at Net-a-Porter.

Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana’s Suede Swarvoski Platform Pump

I knew I recognised these shoes when I spotted them on Katy Perry at Haze Nightclub’s “Waking Up in Vegas” party (Um, spotted them in the photo, I mean. I wasn’t actually there, obviously…)! I showed you them back in August of last year: they’re by Dolce & Gabbana, and while I thought at the time that they were a nice use of the “studded with crystals” look, I also noted that they were pretty expensive, at $995.

That’s not such an issue for Katy Perry, obviously, and if it’s not an issue for you, either, you can grab these at Neiman Marcus. What do you think of Katy’s look?

Faith ‘Clippy’ court shoes with zips

faith clippy court shoes Faith Clippy court shoes with zips

Yeah, I know: it’s a ruffle with a zip on it. Haven’t seen THAT before, have we?

Sarcasm aside, the “ruffle-trimmed-with-a-zip” look doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast, and more than one shoe designer seems to have wholly abandoned themselves to it lately. Faith are the latest brand aboard the bandwagon, with these ‘Clippy’ court shoes, and as much as I’m starting to find the zip/ruffle thing a little bit tired, I just can’t dislike these: not when they’re bright blue, suede, and cute. (And the black’s not bad either.) These also come with another benefit: a heel which is that bit lower than the usual skyscrapers, although it’s still not exactly what you’d call “low”.

Like them? If you do, they’re £55 from here.
