I never know whether to be sad that J Crew don’t ship to the UK, or relieved because of all the money that fact has saved me over the years. Take these little ‘Belle Fleur’ ballet flats, for instance: they’re $258, which is expensive for a pair of flats, but at that same time, they’re absolutely adorable. The mirrored silver leather and sparkly flower detail makes them perfect party shoes for anyone who doesn’t want to wear heels, and they’re every bit as delicate and glamorous as a pair of stilettos.
My bank balance therefore thanks J Crew for their shipping policy, but if you live in the US, Canada or Japan, you can buy these here.
Black and hot pink is normally way too 80s-tastic for me, but in the case of these Fendi sandals, I’m willing to overlook it – in fact, I think it really makes the shoe. In plain black, these would’ve been nice, but in this two-tone upper they’re even nicer, with the bright pink straps and heel giving them a bit of extra style. The problem with a colour this bright, however, is that it’s not particularly versatile, and that would be a problem for me given that these cost $720. If it wouldn’t be a problem for you, however, you can buy them at Bergdorf Goodman.
There’s just so much wrong with these boots that I barely even know where to start. Let’s just start with the obvious, then: they’re boots pretending to be shoes. Like The Fashion Police, I deplore this state of affairs, because it just seems so utterly pointless to me. If I want to wear boots, I’ll wear boots. If I want to wear shoes, on the other hand, I’ll wear shoes. And if I want to wear strappy sandals with thigh-high “socks” underneath them -socks that have, by the way, had their toes cut off to make them “peep toes”… well, I’ll hand myself over to the aforementioned Fashion Police, and I’ll do so willingly.
The problem here, of course (well, ONE of the problems here) is that, not only are these boots pretending to be shoes/socks, they’re pretending to be a particular combination that I can’t for the life of me imagine anyone wanting to wear. Can you? If you can, these are £170 at Miss Selfridge.
I’ve been a little bit obsessed with toe-cap shoes lately, but now that the toe caps are starting to turn up on boots, too, I’m just not sure what to think. I like the idea of these ASOS shoe boots, but I think the contrast of the stark white cap against all-black uppers might look a little odd (or a little like a pee-toe boot worn with white socks!). Perhaps this would work better the other way round?
If you think they’re fine the way they are, they’re £40, and available here.
These Alexander McQueen shoe boots fall firmly into that hated category of “Boots Pretending to be Shoes”, but, oddly enough, I don’t dislike them nearly as much as I dislike most other footwear of this genre. Perhaps the curvy shape is helping them out, but while I wouldn’t pay $1,045 for them (or, indeed, any other price), I wouldn’t hurl them into space, either.
Rihanna wore them earlier this week, arriving at the Late Night With David Letterman Show. This is actually a pretty tame outfit for Rihanna, but what do you think of it? And, more importantly, what do you think of the shoes? If you like them, they’re available direct from the Alexander McQueen website.
Once again, Miss Selfridge have embarked upon a devilish plan to get my money, by producing another cute, nude coloured shoe! These ones come with a chocolate coloured bow, and are also available in black patent. I like them (well, duh!) but something about the front of the shoe looks just a little clumsy to me – possibly just the angle of the photo.
These are an affordable £35, and you can buy them at Miss Selfridge.
Did anyone else’s brains just add the words “Queen of the Desert” after the word ‘Priscilla’ in the title of this post? Mine did: and not because I’m losing my mind (or not just because I’m losing my mind, anyway), but because these have a very OTT feel about them, which their namesake ‘Priscilla’ would probably appreciate.
From the back, the high ankle on these gives them a “wings on the heels” look (so Achilles would probably like them, too!) and they also have a sculpted heel and a two-tone platform. Quite a lot going on there for one little shoe, but I’m mostly remininded of a pair of “Punk Shoes”, complete with mohawk.
What do you think? If you like them, they’re £120 from Topshop.
