Do not adjust your sets, readers : this isn’t two different pairs of shoes, it’s the same shoe, photographed from two different sides. I KNOW! That’s what I thought, too. I mean, can you even imagine a situation in which this would suddenly become practical? If you can, please tell me: I’m genuinely fascinated by this…

Nanette Lepore ‘Sweetheart’ Pump with floral embellishment

Nanette Lepore Nanette Lepore Sweetheart Pump with floral embellishmentYes, sure, it’s a pump with flower on the front. But somehow it manages to be better than most other pumps with flowers on the front, which is why I bring it to you now. Great winter colour, nice patent uppers, slightly vintage look: lovely.  I think these would look fantastic worn with tweeds and a cloche hat for an old-fashion movie star look, but they’ll work pretty well with more modern looks, too.

Black ‘Salvador’ shoe boots from French Connection

salvador shoe boots Black Salvador shoe boots from French Connection

These shoes fall firmly into the “I’d never, ever wear them, but somehow I can’t stop looking at them” category.  Like many occupants of that particular category, I actually think there’s something quite ugly about them… and yet still I look. I probably wouldn’t have look at all, mind you, if it wasn’t for the shot of them actually being worn, which appears on the French Connection website, and demonstrates just how eye-catching these shoes are in the flesh. Chunky, strappy and with a bit of an fetish-wear feel to them somehow, which isn’t exactly what I’ve come to expect from French Connection, but that could just be me.

If these are exactly what you’re looking for, they’re £140 and you can buy them here.

Betsey Johnson black patent ‘Nyla’ heels

If I’d only seen these shoes from the side, I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about them. I happened to see the image on the left first, though, and that big, shiny button (or button-like… thing) drew me in. I think the patent uppers look a little bit cheap ( although that could just be the picture), but with the right outfit, they could look really good: I like the fold-over detail on the front, and they’re not too expensive either, at $159. What do you think?

BCBG Max Azria Mayda platform pumps

BCBG Max Azria Mayda SKU 7 BCBG Max Azria Mayda platform pumpsAt a time when so many shoes look exactly the same as each other, these BCBG Max Azria pumps at least have the benefit of being different.

    BUT.

I think “different” is probably the most positive thing I’m going to be able to say about these, because while I quite like the heels, the front of the shoe looks a lot like a horse’s hoof to me. In fact, the more I look at them, the more “hoof like” they appear. So, points for originality, then, but none for wearability, because I can’t see myself wanting to clomp along in them, somehow. Can you?

Shoes from the Shows: fringed boots at Dolce and Gabbana S/S 2010

LFI DG Milan7 1 Shoes from the Shows: fringed boots at Dolce and Gabbana S/S 2010

Knee-high boots aren’t something I tend to associate with summer (although after the “summer” we’ve just had, I’m not really sure why not), but Dolce and Gabbana showed boots with everything at their Milan Fashion Week show this week, so maybe that’s about to change. This particular pair were worn with a short denim jumpsuit  (you know, as you do), and are really quite spectacular, with the fringing having an animal print on it, just to add to all of the other detailing.

Leather ‘feather’ ankle boots from River Island

feather anke boots Leather feather ankle boots from River IslandRiver Island have just added a selection of new ankle boots from their “Premium” (read: “Slightly more expensive than usual”) collection onto their website, and among them I spotted these feather-embellished ankle boots. Of course, the feathers aren’t real – they’re made of leather – but even so, their presence on these boots is definitely different, isn’t it?

Personally, I’m not keen on feathers. I don’t know why, it’s just one of those things that turn me off things (and if they’re real feathers, I have to admit, I find them a little bit creepy for some reason), so my bank balance is safe from these. What do you think, though? Are they unusual in a good way, or unusual in a bad way?

Either way, they’re £140 from River Island.

Free People ‘Eve’ over the knee flat boots in tan

overthe knee boots Free People Eve over the knee flat boots in tanIf I hadn’t just bought a pair of over-the-knee flats boots (Umm, yeah, I did. More about that later, though…) I’d be seriously lusting over these ones by Free People. They’re the perfect shade of tan, have a lovely almond toe, a little bit of a heel, and a nice simplicity about them that tells me I’d probably wear them to death. Oh, and they also come in black, for the benefit of those of you who feel the tan would be too pale for dirty winter days.

But like I say, I have flat OTK boots in stock at the moment (and I paid considerably less than the $182 these ones cost), so I’ll have to just content myself with looking at them for now.
