Dolce & Gabbana Suede Swarvoski Platform Pumps

dolce gabbana swarovvski cr Dolce & Gabbana Suede Swarvoski Platform PumpsIf shoes absolutely must be covered in crystals or some other embellishment (and this winter it would appear that they must), I think this is the way to do it. These Dolce & Gabbana pumps have black suede uppers with a sprinkling of Swarovski crystal over the top.  Of course, any time the word “Swarovski” is mentioned in relation to shoes, you just know there’s going to be a hefty price-tag attached, and these are no exception: they’re $995, but if you think they’re worth it, they’re available from Neiman Marcus.

Another unusual heel from Marc Jacobs, but I like these a whole lot more than some of the “table leg” heels he’s been coming out with – or, indeed, the “surreal heel” of a couple of years ago. In fact, I was actually starting to get quite enthusiastic about these ankle boots until the dreaded peep toe reared its head toe. The curved shape of the sides is fabulous, the heel is growing on me… but seriously, how many pairs of peep toe boots can the shoe world churn out? WE GET IT, shoe designers: you’ve worked out how to cut holes in boots! You’re really clever! Now fill them back in, please, before our toes fall off. Thanks.

topshop ashish ankle boots Topshops Ashish wedge ankle boots in zebra and leopard printThese arrived on the Topshop website yesterday morning. By the time I came to write this post, at 2pm, they were already sold out in the leopard print, with just a few sizes remaining in the zebra (and by the time you read this, those may well be gone too…).

It looks like this winter is going to be… interesting.

If you really want these, you should still be able to pick them up in larger branches. Oh, and they’re also available in black, but where’s the fun in that?

D&G Dolce & Gabbana closed toe butterfly pumps

dg butterfly pumps D&G Dolce & Gabbana closed toe butterfly pumpsWhat was I just saying about butterfly-style shoes?

These are another example of that trend, although the butterfly effect is far more blatant here than in the shoes I showed you earlier today. These shoes take a bit of getting used to: the embellishments on the front are pretty extravagant, and take up a lot of air-space around your feet, which I know will put some people off. If you’re not one of those people, though, the shoes are $675 at Endless.com.

Aruna Seth ‘Cerise’ diamante wedges in nude and black

aruna seth cerise shoes Aruna Seth Cerise diamante wedges in nude and blackWhen The Fashion Police wrote about these shoes last year, they received a really mixed response. Some people absolutely loved them, while others thought there was just WAY too much bling n’ bow for one shoe. The controversy was mostly caused by this:

It’s one hell of a heel, isn’t it? And I can totally understand why it wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste: it’s just so over-the-top that it’d be suitable for only the dressiest of occasions. If you have such an occasion to attend, though, I think this would be a show-stopper of a shoe, and the nude version could make a nice bridal shoe, too.

The two colours shown here are £625 from Aruna Seth, however there’s also a black snakeskin version which is even more expensive at £725. View them all at the Aruna Seth website.

I’ve no idea how I managed to miss these shoes at Luisa Viaroma: they’re so totally the kind of thing I love right now, from the gorgeous colours (they call these “grey”, but they remind me of the sea) to the butterfly detailing on the front. We’ve been seeing a lot of butterfly themed shoes lately, but I think these are one of my favourites, although, given the constantly damp weather we get here I’d probably be too scared to take those suede-covered platforms for a walk anywhere out of doors!

French Connection ‘Sara’ shoes with mock snake skin and metallic platform heel

I know a lot of fashion commentators have been claiming that the high heel is on its last legs (no pun intended) and that flats are the way forward, but I have to say, I’m not really seeing much sign of that actually happening, are you? In fact, every day, heels – and platforms – seem to get higher and higher. Pretty soon we’re going to need old-fashioned “mounting blocks” to b able to get into them.

French Connection’s ‘Sara’ pumps don’t quite fall into that category, thankfully, but they are cast in the image of the now familiar chunky-platform: the difference is that these do it a little better than most, and while the gold trim on the sole is a little on the flashy side, I don’t think they’d be too difficult to pull off. They’re £120 and available direct from French Connection.

    Chloe bow-embellished suede pumps

chloe bow embellished sanda Chloe bow embellished suede pumpsHmm. I know you’re all probably expecting me to be drooling on my keyboard right now, purely because these shoes have bows, OMG, bows! on them, but actually… no. I’m not loving the current “as many bows as you can fit on the straps” movement in shoe design. Not at all. And OK, there are only three bows on these Chloe sandals, but they still look a little bit fussy to me, and the high leg bothers me, too.

Of course, all of this is academic as far as I’m concerned, because these are an astronomical £900. If that’s just pin money to you, though, you can buy them at Net-a-Porter.
