Ann Demeulemeester leather lace-up ankle boots in white

Ann Demeulemeester Ann Demeulemeester leather lace up ankle boots in whiteThese boots have been something of an enigma to me for quite some time now.

When the black versions first appeared last year, I just didn’t get them: and I didn’t really think too many other people would, either. But then everyone did. “Get them”, that is. Suddenly I started to read fashion blog after fashion blog, all featuring these boots and proclaiming them to be the best! thing! ever!

And still I didn’t get it.

Now, the boots are available in white. You’re probably thinking this is the bit where I go, “and now, finally, I GET IT!” But alas, no. I still struggle to see the appeal in these, regardless of the colour, and £455 still seems like an awful lot of money for what is essentially a high-heeled sneaker. But still, it’s clear that these shoes, like so many of Ann Demeulemeester’s designs, are aimed at people with very different taste from me, and, of course, there’s nothing wrong with that.

If you’re one of those people, the boots are now available at Browns. Tell me, though: what do you think of them?

    River Island bow ankle boots

river island bow ankle boot River Island bow ankle bootsOh, River Island, STOP IT. What are you trying to do to me? I mean, OK, I wasn’t being totally serious about the whole “no more shoes until Christmas” thing, but seriously, how much willpower do you think I have? First you go and show me those delicious peep toes with the bow, and now you go and make these ankle boots. Which I want. But which are £74.99, which is approximately, ooh, £74.99 more than I was intending to spend on shoes this month.

I will resist: at least until I can see these in person, anyway, because while the River Island website describes these as grey, they don’t look even remotely like “grey” on my monitor, and I’ve been stung before with colours that look different in real life.  If you have no such qualms, these are available from RiverIsland.com.

Moda in Pelle’s multicoloured ‘Loui’ t-bar sandals

loui mu s Moda in Pelles multicoloured Loui t bar sandalsIt’s been a while since I found something I really liked at Moda in Pelle, so I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon these ‘Loui’ sandals this afternoon.

Available in either bright “wine” colours (left) or more muted “ocean” colours, I like both of these, and think they’d be great for Autumn: you can up the colour quotient even more by adding a pair of contrasting tights for a very modern kind of look. Not the cheapest brand on the high street, these are £90 and available from the Moda in Pelle website.

It’s been at least a day since I last showed you a pair of shoes that could be described as “nautical”, so here’s a pair of Kors by Michael Kors peep toes that are about as fresh and summery as a shoe gets. While there’s nothing dramatically different about the design here, these are just lots of fun, and will be equally good at brightening up a pair of jeans or a summer skirt.

These are down to £109 at Yoox.com, and, somewhat unusually for Yoox, there are still quite a few sizes left. Get them here.

    Eeek! Asnake! Run!

OK, so these don’t actually LOOK like a snake. But even so, I can’t really see a single redeeming feature here, can you? I mean, when I first saw them I thought I’d landed on the wrong website by mistake, and was looking at some ancient shoe artifacts, from the time BL. (Before Louboutin.)

But maybe that’s just me. If you think these are the best thing since stilettos, you can buy them for £45 at Faith.

skull ankle boots Gianni Barbato skull heeled ankle bootsThese boots may divide opinion to some extent.

Skulls motifs seem to go in and out of fashion every couple of years or so, although they can almost always be found somewhere. This season they’re to be found stuck to the stiletto heel of these Gianni Barbato ankle boots. I, of course, want to know what everyone thinks about that.

For myself, I wouldn’t buy these -not just because they cost $712, but because they’re just not my style at all. But I suspect those of you who appreciate a nice skull now and again may just love them. Do you?

BUY: Gianna Barbato ankle boots, $712

Shoe Deja Vu: Martinez Valero does Manolo Blahnik’s ‘Something Blue’ pumps

martinez manolo Shoe Deja Vu: Martinez Valero does Manolo Blahniks Something Blue pumps

Sex and the City fans will have instantly recognised the shoes on the right of the image above as the shoes Carrie wears in the movie.

And everyone, SATC fan or not, will have instantly recognised the shoes on the LEFT as more or less exact copies of the Manolo Blahniks, minus that extra bit of Blahnik style. No?

Quite how this one didn’t get Martinez Valero sued is beyond me but the designer-inspired shoes are $164 from Zappos, while the Manolo originals are $945 from Bergdorf Goodman.

The Outnet has just taken delivery of a whole bunch of Alexander McQueen shoes, so if you’re a McQueen fan, it’s the plplace to be right now. These snake sandals aren’t necessarily my favourites, but they are one of the more dramatic styles currently available, which is why I’m showing you them.

They’re down to £238 from the original £680 and, needless to say, they’re selling out fast – in fact, at the time of writing, the UK 4 is the only size still available. At least you can comfort yourself with the other Alexander McQueen offerings…
