I love it when new stock arrives at Net-a-Porter….

This morning I logged onto the site and found these Miu Miu pumps waiting for me. These are actually a fairly standard pair of peep toes (which probably accounts for the slightly lower than usual price of £295), with the exception of the ruffled heel, which you can see in close-up in the picture on the right. Is the detail enough to make you want to pay almost £300 for them, though? If it is, you can buy them here.

Stella McCartney’s pierced thigh-high faux leather boots

thigh high boots Stella McCartneys pierced thigh high faux leather boots

A lot of you will probably be familiar with these boots from the Stella McCartney catwalk earlier this year, but now that they’re actually available to buy (for $1,595 – gulp!), I wondered what you thought of them?

I’m a fan of over-the-knee boots in general, but these look like they’re reach considerably higher than the knee, and in fact, if they’re that high on a leggy model, they’ll probably come up to around about my armpits. All the same, they look a little alarming at first glance, but worn with a much more demure skirt or dress I actually think they could be rather fabulous, although a pair of leather-look leggings from Topshop or American Apparel, worn with a stiletto ankle boot will probably give you a pretty similar look, but for much less money.

What do you think of these? Are they something you’d wear?

bandals Ugly Shoe of the Day: Purple thong bandals

Bandals.  They’re what you get when you cross a boot with a sandal, and that, my friends, is a match that should never, ever happen.

Sadly for us, though, it HAS happened, and that’s why these purple thong sandals/boots/whatevers exist. They’re $69 from Barefoot Tess, and also available in black, brown and also in a leather upper, with a zip down the front. The horror!

Christian Dior’s red scallop detail Serpent pumps for pre-fall ’09

christian dior serpent pumm Christian Diors red scallop detail Serpent pumps for pre fall 09I’ve always been of the opinion that it’s hard to go wrong with a simple red pump, although God knows, some designers try their very hardest to mess it up.

Although simple in shape, these ‘Serpent’ pumps, which are part of Christian Dior’s pre-fall 09 collection, have added interest in the form of the scalloped detail on the uppers, and faceted stiletto heels in gold:

As nice as they look in the photos, I have a feeling these are the kind of shoes that will look even better in person. Whether they’re nice enough to justify the $820 price tag, however… well, that’s up to you to decide.

    Giuseppe Zanotti’s high wedge sandals

Few designers have as much fun with wedges as Giuseppe Zanotti. This one is so striking I’d love to try it one, but as for actually wearing it… Well, the heel is over 5″ at it’s highest part, but Zappos say the platform sole will make it feel more like 3,5″, so I don’t know. They still look like the kind of thing I could easily break an ankle in if wasn’t being careful, and I rarely AM being careful, which makes me think they’d probably be best left as something to look at, rather than something to wear. Not that I’d be buying them anyway: they’re $754 from Zappos. What do you think of them?

Ah, the perfect colour for yours truly! I know I talk a lot about nude colored shoes, but beige is actually pretty close to my skin colour, and these are just gorgeous, with their curvy sides and that distinctive flower detail on the toe. The leaf that comes with it, of course, will be too much for some of you:

I like it, though, and can see this working with lots of different outfits: they’re dressy, but not so much that you won’t be able to stick them on with a pair of jeans, too. Best of all, they’re currently reduced to £55. Get them at Shoe Studio

Bow front flat shoes from Faith: ‘Aribow’ and ‘Achic’

bow front flat shoes Bow front flat shoes from Faith: Aribow and Achic

I spotted the shoes on the left of the picture above at Faith this weekend,  and instantly wondered why I hadn’t noticed them on the website, given that they’re so much my kind of thing. I think the answer to that is simply that this photo doesn’t do them justice: in real life, the bow on the front looks much more extravagant, and the colour is far nicer – they reminded me of fairytale shoes, and that’s something I don’t often say about flats!

While I was looking for them on the website today, I also came across the ‘Aribow’ flats on the right, and loved the ribbon on the front, as well as the cream uppers, which will work with most other colours, making these a nice flat dress shoe.

These are £32 each, from Faith.

Christian Louboutin ‘Paola’ lace ankle boots

Far be it for me to criticise The Maestro, but I’m just not really feeling these lace ankle boots by Christian Louboutin. At first I thought the lace uppers were less delicate than they actually look, with a flesh-coloured backing on them, but when you view them in close-up, it becomes clear that these really are made from semi-transparent lace:

Presumably they’re meant to be worn as evening wear – I don’t think those lace uppers would be very practical in the type of weather I Usually wear ankle boots in – but I probably wouldn’t wear them then either, so my £735 is reasonably safe. With that said, I’d need to see what they look like on a foot to make a proper judgement on them: who knows, they could be stunning! What do you think?
